Forest of Colours – Thailand’s Tenasserim Hills

Nature & Wildlife 52' 2024 HD

A tropical jungle in the mountains of Southeast Asia. What exotic creatures live here?
This documentary shows intimate portraits of animals rarely seen on television, but it also poses deeper questions about the mysteries of perception and evolution: why they have such wonderful colours, what it takes to sustain those colours in the jungle, and just as importantly – what may those colours look like to the animals themselves.

We follow a growing Langur monkey, whose perception is very similar to ours. Along the way we meet other characters: from the majestic Asian elephant and the elusive Sun bear, to the alien world of Stick insects and Orb-weaver spiders. Over 100 animal species are shown – but the documentary's style, through meticulous filming and specially composed music, aims to honour the peaceful atmosphere of this forest, that rewards attention paid to even the smaller details.

The Tenasserim mountains in Thailand may seem remote, but lineages that evolved in this region have spread across the world. We are only beginning to appreciate the complexity of these forests... and the sheer importance of preserving them for centuries to come.
