Newfoundland – Shaped by the Sea

Destinations 50' 2025 HD

Newfoundland – an island of raw beauty, where wind and waves shape the landscape and wildlife thrives in untouched nature. Much of this can be experienced up close by nature lovers.

The film begins in St. John’s, the colorful capital and North America’s oldest city, before heading to the continent’s easternmost point: Cape Spear, where the Atlantic Ocean crashes against the rugged cliffs.

Following the Irish Loop along the east coast, we embark on whale-watching tours, searching for humpback whales as they hunt in the cool waters. On the southern coast, at St. Vincent’s Beach, nature offers a breathtaking spectacle: gigantic whales come astonishingly close to the shore — a magical moment of connection between humans and animals.

In the Terra Nova National Park, the film dives into the wilderness — a hiker’s paradise, where beavers build their lodges in sheltered coves. Further west, in Gros Morne National Park, lies a landscape that seems from another planet: the Tablelands, a barren desert of mantle rock, shaped by the Earth's primal forces.

In Elliston, countless puffins populate the coastal cliffs — one of the largest colonies of these charismatic seabirds. In contrast, Cape St. Mary’s is home to majestic northern gannets, soaring in spectacular formations above the sea.

Finally, the journey leads to the west coast, to Port aux Choix, where caribou roam the tundra landscape along the rocky shoreline — an awe-inspiring symbol of Newfoundland’s untamed wilderness.

"Newfoundland" is a tribute to the breathtaking nature and wildlife of this unique island — a film full of wild beauty and unforgettable encounters.
